HC Deb 23 May 1927 vol 206 c1630
10. Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether an architect has yet been chosen to prepare designs for the India House to be erected in London; if so, whether full designs have been prepared, brought before any committee of the Indian legislature, and received the approval of the Government of India; and whether he will inform the House of the estimated cost involved in carrying out such designs?

Earl WINTERTON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and the architect, Sir Herbert Baker, is now preparing final plans. Before the Indian Legislature voted a grant of £60,000 for the current year's expenditure preliminary plans were placed before that body. The whole scheme is estimated to cost £300,000.
