HC Deb 19 May 1927 vol 206 c1336
4. Mr. BATEY

asked the Home Secretary the total amount of prison accommodation in the counties of Durham and Northumberland?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The prison at Durham contains cell accommodation for 624 men and 155 women prisoners. In addition there are four rooms for men and three for women prisoners in association. There is no prison in Northumberland.

Mr. BATEY

Is it the intention of the right hon. Gentleman to take steps for the purpose of providing sufficient accommodation after the Trade Disputes and Trade Unions Bill has passed?
