HC Deb 19 May 1927 vol 206 c1363
56. Mr. CECIL WILSON

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether it is a condition of all contracts that a fair-wages notice shall be exhibited on the works; if so, what steps are taken by the Department to see that this condition is observed; and whether such notice is now exhibited in the case of all contracts running?

The SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Samuel Hoare)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the remaining parts, the opportunity is taken, when a contractor's works are visited, to see whether the notice is exhibited, but in view of the expense involved it would not be practicable to depute a member of the Contracts staff specially to visit all the firms with whom the very large number of Air Ministry contracts are placed in order to verify the point. If the hon. Member has any particular case of this kind in mind and will give me particulars of it, I will have it investigated.
