HC Deb 19 May 1927 vol 206 c1360
47. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of his recent decision regarding the extension of the franchise, he will consider the advisability of introducing legislation to enforce the exercise of the franchise before the next General Election?

The PRIME MINISTER

The answer is in the negative.

Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

May I ask the Prime Minister, with all deference, whether he has considered that the adoption of my suggestion would mean the probable disappearance of His Majesty's Opposition at the next General Election?

Mr. SPEAKER

That question is decidedly argumentative.

Mr. SCRYMGEOUR

Would not the effect of this legislation be actually to intimidate and coerce the Government?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is another question of the same nature.
