HC Deb 16 May 1927 vol 206 cc918-9
71. Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the Minister of Transport whether any experimental work has yet been carried out by his Department under the Roads Improvement Act, and of what nature?

Colonel ASHLEY

Experiments in the use of various surfacing materials are being conducted on a considerable scale along the new arterial roads known as the Barnet By-pass and the Barking Bypass. Experimental investigations are also being made into the problems of skidding, and the influence of vehicle design upon the wear inflicted upon highways. Although some time must elapse before conclusive results can be obtained, I hope to include an interim account of the work in the next Annual Report on the Administration of the Road Fund.
