HC Deb 16 May 1927 vol 206 c893
27. Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Health what classes and quantities of canned goods are imported into this country which, because of the presence in them of preservatives, artificial colouring matter, or for other similar reasons, are barred by law for use in the countries of origin?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Sir Kingsley Wood)

The Preservative Regulations, which prohibit or restrict the addition of preservatives or colouring matters to foodstuffs, are so drawn as to prevent the importation of articles which do not conform to their requirements, and my right hon. Friend is not aware that any canned goods are imported into this country the sale of which is prohibited in the countries of origin for the reasons stated in the question.
