asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many unemployed persons who have been disallowed unemployment benefit have applied to the parish councils of Scotland for relief during the first four months of 1927?

The desired information for the whole of Scotland is not available, but, according to returns obtained from 50 of the larger parishes covering the greater portion of the industrial areas, 11,925 persons who have been disallowed unemployment benefit have applied to those parish councils for relief during the first four months of 1927. I have no information as to how many of those persons were found to be entitled to relief.

May I ask whether any inquiries are made as to the future of these needy persons after they have gone to the parish council?

I have no knowledge.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many unemployed persons who have been disallowed unemployment benefit at Edinburgh Employment Exchanges have applied to the parish council for relief during the first four months of 1927?

I am informed that the number of unemployed persons who have been disallowed unemployment benefit at the Edinburgh Employment Exchanges and have applied to the parish council for relief during the first four months of 1927 is 329. I have no information as to how many of those persons were found to be entitled to relief.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many unemployed persons who have been disallowed unemployment benefit at the Leith Employment Exchange have applied to the parish council for relief during the first four months of 1927?

I am informed that the number of unemployed persons who have been disallowed unemployment benefit at the Leith Employment Exchange and have applied to the parish council for relief during the first four months of 1927 is 245. I have no information as to how many of those persons were found to be entitled to relief.
