asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can give the figures of emigration from Scotland oversea for the past 10 years?

I have been asked to reply, and with the hon. Member's permission, I will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT the figures for which he asks.

Following is the statement:

The numbers of British subjects recorded as having left permanent residence in Scotland to take up permanent residence in non-European countries during the 10 years, 1917 to 1926, were as follow:

1921 41,424
1922 39,857
1923 88,584
1924 39,156
1925 37,891
1926 48,640

Residence for a year or more is treated as permanent for the purpose of this classification.
