HC Deb 05 May 1927 vol 205 cc1757-8
39. Mr. E. BROWN

asked the Minister of Labour the number of insured persons disallowed unemployed benefit in Scotland in the first four months of 1927, on the grounds that they have not had a reasonable period of insurable employment during the preceding two years?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Betterton)

During the four months ended 11th April, 1927, 20,973 applications for extended benefit were recommended for disallowance by local employment committees in Scotland on the ground that the applicants had not had a reasonable period of insurable employment in the preceding two years.

Mr. BROWN

Have the Ministry of Labour any figures to show what happens to these men after they come off the allowance for benefit, whether they are followed up in any way or whether they are left to the mercy of the parish councils and the boards of guardians?

Mr. BETTERTON

No, Sir, I have none.
