§ 40. Mr. HAYESasked the Minister of Transport whether any representations have been made to him in the matter of the location of the tunnel entrance and approaches on the Liverpool side of the Mersey; and, if so, whether he has any statement to make?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI have received representations in favour of a modification of the position of the tunnel entrance on the Liverpool side of the Mersey, but I understand that the Mersey Tunnel Joint Committee after careful consideration have resolved to adhere to the plan fixed by the Mersey Tunnel Act, 1925, and I have no reason to question the wisdom of that decision.
§ Mr. HAYESAm I to understand that the decision to have the tunnel entrance in the Whitechapel area has been adhered to, or am I to understand that there is some change?
§ Colonel ASHLEYMy information is that the Committee have, after careful consideration, resolved to adhere to the plan fixed by the Act.
§ Mr. HAYESWill the right hon. Gentleman have some inquiry made locally as to the strength of public opinion which is against the original decision in regard to this matter of the tunnel opening?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI think I must leave that to the decision of the Tunnel Joint Committee.
