HC Deb 05 May 1927 vol 205 c1737
Captain BOURNE

I ask leave to present a petition from Socialist, political and other clubs in the city of Oxford and district, signed by 1,200 persons, which shows that whereas alcoholic drink cannot be supplied on the premises of the aforesaid clubs owing to the provisions of the Licensing Act of 1921, wherefore your petitioners pray your honourable House to consent to such alteration of the law as may be necessary to enable your petitioners themselves to make rules and regulations governing the supply or sale of alcoholic drink as they may deem expedient, and to enable your petitioners to fix both the duration and the incidence of such hours and thus restore to your petitioners that liberty which they have always enjoyed prior to the year of Our Lord One thousand nine hundred and fourteen, and so as in duty bound ever humbly pray.
