HC Deb 04 May 1927 vol 205 cc1614-5
36. Mr. DENNISON

asked the Minister of Labour whether the recent contract given by the Southern Railway Company to a Swedish electrical machinery manufacturing company will involve the introduction into this country of Swedish artisans; and if he is prepared to give permits to such foreign workpeople to take part in the erection of plant and machinery manufactured abroad while large numbers of British skilled engineers are still unemployed in Great Britain?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

No application for permits in this connection has so far been received. I cannot say what decision I should come to unless and until such an application is made.
