HC Deb 04 May 1927 vol 205 c1609
28. Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he will consider the extension to all men employed in His Majesty's dockyards at home ports the privilege that now obtains in certain grades, whereby pay will not be lost to them at Easter and Christmas when they are compelled to cease work on the Saturday of the week-ends in which these holidays occur?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

The answer is in the negative. I would remind the hon. Member that the practice of making Saturday a closed day when it follows a paid holiday on Friday is to meet the general desire of all concerned.
