HC Deb 02 May 1927 vol 205 cc1270-1
42. Sir J. POWER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he has any statement to make with regard to the future status of Tangier?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

As a result of an exchange of views between the Powers concerned regarding the modification in certain respects of the Tangier Statute, it was arranged that preliminary conversations should take place between the French and Spanish Governments, to be followed, in the event of a basis of agreement being reached, by further discussions in which His Majesty's Government and the Italian Government would join. The Franco-Spanish conversations are still proceeding.
