HC Deb 02 May 1927 vol 205 cc1286-7
Mr. MacKENZIE LIVINGSTONE (by Private Notice)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has any information as to the present position regarding the five Harris men who were recently sentenced to imprisonment for breach of interdict?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir John Gilmour)

I understand that following upon an interview which the hon. Member had with these men in Inverness Prison on Friday last they have given to the Sheriff an undertaking to obey the law, in consequence of which the Sheriff has authorised their release. They were liberated on Saturday.

Mr. JOHNSTON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when these five men go back to Scaristaveg, what opportunities they will have of earning a living, if land is refused them?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member cannot ask a supplementary question of that kind on a Private Notice question.
