HC Deb 31 March 1927 vol 204 cc1400-1
19. Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

asked the Home Secretary whether he has had his attention drawn to the character of the quarters provided for officers at His Majesty's Prison, Pentonville; and whether he proposes to make any improvements in these conditions?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The question of improving the block quarters at Pentonville has received repeated consideration, but owing to expense and other reasons it has not yet been found possible to improve the existing quarters or to provide additional ones.

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how soon he will be in a position to take action to effect some improvement?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The question of improving the prison is one which has been under my close consideration.
