HC Deb 30 March 1927 vol 204 cc1238-9
33. Mr. GEORGE HALL

asked the Minister of Labour whether it is proposed to establish any day-training centres in South Wales and Monmouthshire for the purpose of training young men and women at present unemployed?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

There are at present juvenile unemployment centres for unemployed boys and girls from 14-18 years of age in Cardiff and one, for boys only, in Swansea. I am prepared to consider any proposals which other local education authorities may make for the establishment of similar centres, subject to the usual conditions.

Mr. LANSBURY

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the establishment of day-training centres similar to those he has established for young men and women in Birmingham and London?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

It is a question of the means that are available. In themselves they are very desirable, indeed.

Mr. LANSBURY

Will the right hon. Gentleman ask his colleague the Chancellor of the Exchequer to find some money for this estimable work?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I will certainly ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can find money for this work.

Mr. LANSBURY

He can find it for any old war—[Interruption.]
