§ 33. Mr. GEORGE HALLasked the Minister of Labour whether it is proposed to establish any day-training centres in South Wales and Monmouthshire for the purpose of training young men and women at present unemployed?
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDThere are at present juvenile unemployment centres for unemployed boys and girls from 14-18 years of age in Cardiff and one, for boys only, in Swansea. I am prepared to consider any proposals which other local education authorities may make for the establishment of similar centres, subject to the usual conditions.
§ Mr. LANSBURYWill the right hon. Gentleman consider the establishment of day-training centres similar to those he has established for young men and women in Birmingham and London?
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDIt is a question of the means that are available. In themselves they are very desirable, indeed.
§ Mr. LANSBURYWill the right hon. Gentleman ask his colleague the Chancellor of the Exchequer to find some money for this estimable work?
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDI will certainly ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can find money for this work.
§ Mr. LANSBURYHe can find it for any old war—[Interruption.]
