HC Deb 28 March 1927 vol 204 c836
9. Colonel DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if he has received any communication or Report with reference to the firing ordered by the district magistrate of Backergunge district at Ponabalia, in which it is reported 20 Mohammedans have been killed and 40 wounded; and if he is now in a position to make a statement to the House?

Earl WINTERTON

I can at present add nothing to the reply given on 24th March to the hon. Member for Bow and Bromley (Mr. Lansbury), which contains all the information on this matter as yet in my Noble Friend's possession.

Colonel DAY

Can the Noble Lord say whether the magistrate or the superintendent of police was injured in this not?

Earl WINTERTON

As far as I am aware, they were not injured. The information, which is very full, which was in the reply to which I have referred, gives the whole history of the incident.
