HC Deb 28 March 1927 vol 204 cc871-2
53. Mr. H. WILLIAMS (for Sir FRANK SANDERSON)

asked the President of the Board of Education if he is aware that there are two experimental plants for the slow carbonisation of coal being, or shortly to be, erected at the works of the Gas Light and Coke Company, one to the specification of Mr. Hird, of Bradford, and one to the specification of the Fuel Research Board, both of which are to be tested by the Fuel Research Board; and whether he is in a position to give any information as

to the probable date of the tests to be made or any other developments in connection therewith?

Duchess of ATHOLL

My right hon. Friend understands that the Gas Light and Coke Company are considering the erection of a low-temperature carbonising plant of the type devised by His Majesty's Fuel Research Station, but at the present stage he would prefer to make no further statement. My right hon. Friend has no information as to the other plant referred to by my hon. Friend. The last part of the question, therefore, does not arise.
