§ 22. Mr. HARDIEasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total amounts advanced each year from 1919 onwards under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts in Scotland; and the number of houses to which the loans applied?
§ Sir J. GILMOURIn order to give the figures desired, I should require to call for returns from the local authorities under the Acts, and I am not satisfied that the work involved would be justified. I may say, however, that I have information which indicates that since the passing of the Housing etc. Act, 1923, 14 local authorities have undertaken to advance £585,041 in respect of 1,116 houses.
§ Mr. HARDIEWill the right hon. Gentleman, in order to keep a record of what is being done, have that record got out?
§ Sir J. GILMOURThis is a matter which primarily concerns local authorities, and it would entail a great deal of expense and research.
§ Mr. HARDIEIf this House is involved in the voting of that money, is it not essential to know the absolute details of how the money is spent?
