HC Deb 22 March 1927 vol 204 cc216-7
77. Major CRAWFURD

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that, at a recent mooting of the National Association of Vagrancy Committees, complaint was made that casual vagrants suffering from scabies were passed on from casual ward to casual ward, thereby spreading the disease; and whether he proposes to take any steps in the matter?

Sir K. WOOD

This complaint has not previously been brought to my right hon. Friend's notice, but he will make inquiries. I may say that the attention of guardians has from time to time been drawn to this matter by Circular and otherwise. The Regulations applicable to casual wards contain provisions enabling guardians to detect and deal with such cases and the guardians also have powers of detention.
