HC Deb 17 March 1927 vol 203 cc2177-9
26. Mr. WELLOCK

asked the Minister of Health the number of houses that have been built by the local authorities in Stourbridge, Oldbury and Halesowen (including Cradley and Hill and Cake-more), and the number in course of erection or due to be completed by October, 1927?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

As the answer involves a number of figures, I will, with the hon. Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the answer:

The following table gives the numbers of houses completed since 1919, under construction, and authorised for erection in the areas in question, both in regard to local authority schemes and schemes by private enterprise:

them at right angles and, as there are no bridges to carry the streets across the stream, a gap about four feet deep is left in the middle of each roadway, causing danger to inhabitants on the estate and to the public; that the London County Council are allowing the formation of the streets in question without insisting on the construction by the builders of such bridges; and will he take steps to have the necessary bridges provided?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

My attention has not been previously drawn to this matter. In London, control of the lay-out of streets is vested in the county council, and it is for them to consider, so far as they may have powers, what measures to take in any case of this kind. I have no authority to intervene, but I am sending the council a copy of my hon. Friend's question.
