HC Deb 17 March 1927 vol 203 c2202
14. Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Home Secretary whether he has made an additional appointment of an inspector of constabulary as from 1st April next: what is to be his salary; whether he will be pensionable and at what age; and why an addition to the staff is required at this time?

Captain HACKING

Yes, Sir. Mr. Charles de Courcy Parry, late Chief Constable of Cumberland and Westmorland, has been appointed as announced in the Press. The salary is £1,000 per annum, rising to £1,200 in four years. The post is pensionable under the usual Civil Service conditions. The appointment is rendered necessary by additional work at present devolving on His Majesty's inspectors and in prospect

Colonel WOODCOCK

Can the hon. and gallant Gentleman explain whether the necessity for this additional member of the staff is because the force has been increased or because of any inefficiency?

Captain HACKING

No, there has been no inefficiency at all. The appointment is rendered necessary by the extra work.
