HC Deb 17 March 1927 vol 203 c2190
55. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware of the many industrial assurance policies that have lapsed and are lapsing in the mining areas as a result of the prolonged dispute in the coal industry last year; and whether he will call for a Report on this matter from the Industrial Assurance Commissioner and inform the House of the result of it?

Sir G. HENNESSY

My right hon. Friend has no official information with regard to the lapsing of industrial assurance policies in consequence of the coal dispute, and the Industrial Assurance Commissioner has no power to call for information with a view to a Report. The hon. and gallant Member has no doubt seen the statements in the Press as to the steps that are being taken by leading companies to prevent lapsing.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

If I provide some information on that matter, will the hon. Baronet, have it looked into?

Sir G. HENNESSY

Yes.

Sir WILLIAM DAVISON

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that in one of the great industrial companies something like 1,500,000 policies have been specially kept in existence which had really expired in the way suggested in the question?

Sir G. HENNESSY

I am aware of that.
