HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 cc1617-8
52. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he now has information about the situation at Ningpo and the occupation of the Ningpo Trinity College belonging to the Church Missionary Society; and whether negotiations are in progress between His Majesty's Government and the Chinese Government, or the governing body concerned, for the return of this property, and also for the return of the Church Missionary Society's hospital at Hangchow?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir Austen Chamberlain)

I have not yet received any details about these events, or any reports on the action taken by His Majesty's consular officers in regard to them. I have no doubt the consular officers will have taken whatever steps are required.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Will the right hon. Gentleman inform me when he has the information, as I should like to have an explanation?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes, Sir.
