HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 cc1624-5
26. Mr. SHORT

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what was the estimated expenditure of public money during 1926–27 due to the acceptance of the mandate for Iraq?

Mr. AMERY

Provision to the extent of £3,900,400 was made in the Middle Eastern Services Vote for 1926–27 on account of Iraq; but, as I explained to the hon. Member on 25th February, 1926, it is not possible to calculate with any accuracy how much of this expenditure could be said to be directly due to the acceptance by this country of the Mandate for Iraq.
