§ 67. Sir F. MEYERasked the Minister of Transport whether it is necessary to the working of the roundabout traffic system in Sloane Square that taximeter cabs and private cars should be prohibited from stopping for the purpose of setting down their occupants at any point in the Square; and whether he is aware that this rule is being enforced by the police?
§ Colonel ASHLEYThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. With regard to the latter part, I am informed by the Commissioner of Police that no instructions have been given to the police to prohibit either cabs or motor cars stopping in the Square to set down or to pick up passengers.
§ Sir F. MEYERIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the police have, in fact, been stopping cars from setting down people before certain shops on the West side of the Square?
§ Colonel ASHLEYIf the hon. Member will give me particulars, I will undertake to inquire.
