HC Deb 09 March 1927 vol 203 cc1219-20
36. Mr. SHORT

asked the Minister of Labour whether, with a view to assisting the unemployed and providing playing-fields for school children attending the elementary schools of Wednesbury, Tipton and Darlaston, he will recommend the Unemployment Grants Committee to provide the local authorities with funds to enable them to clear and level the pit mounds existing in these localities?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I understand that proposals of this nature have previously been considered, but that, in the absence of any definite application for a grant, no decision was reached by the Unemployment Grants Committee. If the local authorities concerned are of opinion that they can satisfy the conditions for grant now obtaining, as indicated in the Committee's Circular Letter of the 15th December, 1925, an application to the Committee would be considered.
