HC Deb 01 March 1927 vol 203 c205
44. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the tithe and works systems of taxation still continue in Cyprus; and, if so, whether he will inquire as to whether the benefit of the alterations proposed for Palestine might usefully be extended to Cyprus also?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for COLONIAL AFFAIRS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

The tithe has been abolished, but the property tax to which the right hon. Member refers still continues. No proposals for the alteration of the Palestine Property Tax have yet reached me, and until they do it is not possible for me to answer the second part of the question.
