§ 34. Mr. KELLYasked the Minister of Transport what parties and interests were consulted as to the appointment of the chairman and members of the board set up under the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1926?
§ Colonel ASHLEYBefore appointing the Central Electricity Board I consulted a large number of associations and individuals representative of the interests of Local Government, Electricity, Commerce and Industry, Transport, Agriculture and Labour. I cannot undertake to give a detailed list of those who were consulted in connection with this matter.
§ Mr. KELLYWhat objection has the right hon. Gentleman to giving the names of those he consulted connected with the various interests and parties in regard to this matter?
§ Colonel ASHLEYIt was left to me to consult whoever I wished in these various interests and industries. I did so, and I see no useful purpose in giving a list of some 60 or 70 names.
§ Colonel ASHLEYI think the justification for what I have done is the success with which it has been attended.
Captain CROOKSHANKIs it not true to say that a very good board has been set up, and therefore it does not matter who has been consulted beforehand?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI think that is so.
§ Mr. THURTLECan the right hon. Gentleman say whether or not he consulted any political party?
§ Colonel ASHLEYMost of the people I consulted had political convictions.
