HC Deb 20 June 1927 vol 207 c1467
18. Colonel DAY

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been drawn to the statement made by King Feisal, at the opening ceremony of the Alwand Refinery on 3rd May, that there will be a pipe line from Iraq to the Mediterranean; and whether he has any information that confirms the foregoing statement?

Mr. AMERY

I have seen a newspaper report on the speech, from which I gather that King Feisal merely expressed the hope that he would soon be able to make such a statement. Beyond this I can add nothing to the reply I gave the hon. and gallant Member on 23rd May.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

In the surveys for the pipe line will the right hon. Gentleman not overlook that Haifa will be the principal port concerned, and arrange accordingly?

Mr. AMERY

Certainly I will not overlook any of these considerations, but it is, of course, a matter of private and not of Government action.
