HC Deb 20 June 1927 vol 207 cc1461-2
2. Mr. SNELL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will give information as to the precise nature of the criminal proceedings which have been instituted following the inquiry by the district Commissioner into the recent clash between the police and a Moslem crowd at Kulakati, Bengal?

Earl WINTERTON

I understand that the proceedings are the prosecution of the Maulvi who incited the crowd and possibly of other persons who were amongst the crowd (though I am not sure of this) on charges of rioting and membership of an unlawful assembly. These prosecutions are not consequential on the Commissioner's inquiry, which was directed to the circumstances surrounding the firing on the crowd.
