HC Deb 20 June 1927 vol 207 c1477
31. Captain CROOKSHANK

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware of the interest that is being taken by the agricultural community in possible schemes for the extension to agriculture of special credit facilities; and, if so, whether the Government are now in negotiation with any group of bankers with regard to such schemes?

Mr. GUINNESS

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply which I gave to a similar question addressed to me on the 16th of May by my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for the Maldon division of Essex (Lieut.-Colonel Ruggles-Brise), to which I have nothing to add.

Mr. BUXTON

Can the Minister contradict the rumours that banks are tending to restrict credit facilities to farmers?

Mr. GUINNESS

I have no evidence of it.

Mr. HURD

When will the right hon. Gentleman be in a position to give us the information which we are all anxious to have on this subject?

Mr. GUINNESS

I have nothing to add to what I have already said in answer to a similar question.

Mr. HURD

When will the right hon. Gentleman be able to add something.

Mr. GUINNESS

It is impossible to say.
