HC Deb 15 June 1927 vol 207 cc1003-4
42. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Minister of Health if his attention has been drawn to a recent case in which a landlord obtained an order for possession of one of his dwellings on the ground that the tenant had failed to have one of his children vaccinated; and if he is prepared to amend the law in order to make it illegal for the vaccination of children to be a condition of any tenancy agreement?

Sir K. WOOD

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and to the second part in the negative.

Colonel DAY

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the Guardians of Southwark have already received a notification from the Peabody Trust that one of their tenants is in process of eviction?

Sir K. WOOD

No, Sir.

Colonel DAY

Will the hon. Gentleman say whether he has received my letter of 11th June, in which I gave him the full particulars and copy of the letter that I received from the Guardians of Southwark?

Sir K. WOOD

I will make inquiries.

Sir JOSEPH NALL

Are the Ministry of Health aware of the recent epidemic of small-pox, and will they encourage vaccination in every possible way?

Sir K. WOOD

Yes. That is why I have stated that we are not prepared to alter the law as suggested by the hon. Member opposite.
