HC Deb 15 June 1927 vol 207 c986
6. Colonel DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received any Report from the British Consul at Damascus with reference to the attempt to kidnap two British nationals, namely, Miss Irene Queenie Speller and Miss Winnie Comber; and, if so, will he give the full details to the House?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

His Majesty's Consul at Damascus reported by telegram on the 24th of May that he was repatriating these two girls, but made no mention of any attempt to kidnap them.

Colonel DAY

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether there is any truth in the statement that they were fired at by soldiers, or pursued by aeroplanes?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

We have China received no report to that effect.
