Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYasked the Minister of Agriculture whether all the farms which form the Government's agricultural colony at Patrington have been let to suitable tenants; what are the rents that have been obtained; and how these rents compare with the rents paid before the acquisition of the land of the agricultural colony for the Government?
§ The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Guinness)Approximately two-fifths of the area formerly comprised in the Patrington Farm Settlement has been re-let to suitable tenants. The remainder is still in hand. I will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT particulars of the new lettings.
§ Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHYCan the right hon. Gentleman say, without giving the details, whether the rents obtained are greater or less than those prevailing before the area was cut up?
§ Mr. GUINNESSThe average rent for the area which has been re-let is 4s. 6d. more than the average rent of the same holdings in 1917.
§ Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHYIs not that accounted for by the fact that during the Government tenure of this estate a very fine road has been built, which has improved the letting value of the holding?
