HC Deb 13 June 1927 vol 207 cc655-6
3. Sir JOHN POWER

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any steps have been taken to bring to the notice of the inhabitants of British West Africa the investigations for improving the yield of oil palms which have been carried out in the Netherlands East Indies?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Amery)

Yes, Sir. Last year agricultural officers of Nigeria and the Gold Coast were sent to the East Indies to study and report upon the methods in use there. They have now returned, and are submitting their reports to the Governments of Nigeria and the Gold Coast, who are giving close attention to the problem of improving palmeries by planting better-yielding varieties and improving; methods of native extraction. Discussions in regard to the establishment of central mills are in progress.
