HC Deb 01 June 1927 vol 207 c388
66. Sir F. WISE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what war services were liquidated during 1926 and what are the remaining war services to liquidate?

Mr. McNEILL

The Surplus Stores, etc. (Liquidation Department and the Shipping Liquidation Department ceased to exist as separate Departments on 31st March last, and grants for the higher education of ex-service men practically terminated on the same date. Considerable progress was a made in winding up other schemes, for example, the expenditure on the training and resettlement of ex-service personnel has fallen from £366,649 in, 1926 to £80,143 in 1927. For a statement of the remaining war services not yet liquidated, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which was given to my hon. Friend the Member for Wimbledon on 5th May.
