HC Deb 01 June 1927 vol 207 c373
30. Sir KENNETH MURCHISON

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has any information which would indicate the extent of unemployment in manufacturing industries in the United States?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

Although no official statistics of unemployment are issued by the United States Government, it appears to be generally accepted by those competent to express an opinion on the subject that out of a total of 12,000,000 workers engaged in the manufacturing industries, there are at least one and a-half million unemployed at any time.
