HC Deb 01 June 1927 vol 207 cc365-6
15. Sir HARRY BRITTAIN

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what has been the cost to his Department of the Admiralty compass observatory at Datchet; and what is the amount of its annual upkeep?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lieut.-Colonel Headlam)

The total capital cost since and including the purchase in 1917 has been £75,000, and the net annual cost for the latest year for which I have figures is £20,000. In calculating the annual cost no allowance has been made for the value of the repair work carried out by the Department which would otherwise have to be done by contract and paid for.
