HC Deb 26 July 1927 vol 209 cc995-6
4. Mr. HURD

asked the President of the Board of Trade the volume and value of sugar-beet pulp exports, and indicate destinations?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister):

I regret that the information is not available, as there are no separate records of these exports.

Mr. HURD

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell me under what heading they come?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

Yes, feeding stuffs, unsweetened, other than something or other, I am not sure what. I can send the hon. Member a note saying where he can find it. It is general feeding stuffs, unsweetened.

Mr. HURD

I suppose the Customs authorities will have this information?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

No, I have consulted the Customs authorities. It is because all feeding stuffs which are not sweetened are lumped together in the return, and returned under that generic name, that we cannot separate sugar-beet from any other form.
