HC Deb 25 July 1927 vol 209 c837
42. Lieut.-Commander KERWORTHY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the negotiations conducted with the Abyssinian Government at Addis Ababa are being undertaken jointly with Italy or any other Power, or whether they are being conducted separately by His Majesty's representative with the Abyssinian Government; and what is the present nature of these negotiations?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir Austen Chamberlain)

The Lake Tsana, negotiations are the only ones in which His Majesty's Government are engaged at Addis Ababa. No third Power is taking part in them. The position remains as described in the reply which I returned to the hon. and gallant Member for Chelmsford (Lieut.-Colonel Howard-Bury) on the 13th instant. We still await the comments of the Abyssinian Government on the suggestions we have put forward.
