HC Deb 20 July 1927 vol 209 cc388-9
22. Mr. COMPTON

asked the Minister of Labour the total number of persons in Manchester and Salford who have been refused benefit for the 12 months ending 30th April, 1927, because of the income test as applied in the Act of 1925?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

During the 12 months ended 9th May, 1927, out of 129,000 applications for extended benefit, 7,500 were recommended for disallowance by the local committees in the Manchester and Salford area, on the ground that the family income was deemed to be sufficient to provide for the applicants concerned. The number of separate individuals contained in this figure cannot be stated.
