HC Deb 19 July 1927 vol 209 cc229-30
62. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Secretary of State for Air what are the comparative figures for the British Empire to the 3,806 air ports or landing stations in the United States of America; and what are the figures for Great Britain?

Captain BOWYER

I have been asked to reply. The number of landing grounds and air ports in the British Empire is 845, of which 237 are in Great Britain. I should add that information is not available as to the principles on which places are classified in the United States as air ports or landing stations, the latter especially being a/ very elastic term, and it is, therefore, not possible to say whether the British figures are fairly comparable with the American.
