HC Deb 18 July 1927 vol 209 cc15-6
51. Dr. VERNON DAVIES

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will give the weight and values of the imports of cotton yarn from Belgium for the last 12 months for which statistic are available; and can he state the amount of the subsidy per pound of yarn paid by the Belgian Government?

Mr. SAMUEL

Cotton yarn, 4,000,000. lbs. in quantity valued at £340,000, was imported into the United Kingdom, consigned from Belgium, in the year 1926. The latest information in my possession is that no subsidy is paid by the Belgian Government on the production or exportation of cotton yarn.
