asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) the number of emigrants who sailed for Australia without Government assistance in the first six months of this year and the number who sailed in the corresponding six months of 1926 and 1925;

(2) the number of assisted emigrants who left the United Kingdom for Australia in the first six months of this year and the number who sailed in the corresponding six months of 1926 and 1925?

The number of British subjects who left permanent residence in Great Britain and Northern Ireland to take up permanent residence in Australia during the first six months of 1925 and 1926 was was 17,979 and 21,630 respectively, of whom 11,989 and 16,422 received Government assistance. The total number of unassisted migrants for the first six months of 1927 is not yet available, but the number for the first five months was 17,424, of whom 13,242 received Government assistance. The number of assisted migrants for June, 1927, was 2,358.
