HC Deb 12 July 1927 vol 208 cc1945-6
40. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Pensions whether, in the case of a man 100 per cent. disabled whose wife is in receipt of the allowance of 10s. a week under Article 1a (1), it is the general practice of his Department to discontinue the allowance to the wife when she is granted an old age pension; and, if so, under what warrant or Act of Parliament is the wife's allowance stopped?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of PENSIONS (Lieut.-Colonel Stanley)

An allowance under Article 1a (1) of the Royal Warrant is never discontinued because of the grant of an old age pension to the wife.

Mr. GRIFFITHS

Would that apply to a widow?

Lieut.-Colonel STANLEY

The question refers to the wife of a man who is in receipt of this allowance.

Mr. GRIFFITHS

Does it apply to the widow as well?

Lieut.-Colonel STANLEY

That question does not arise out of this question.

Mr. GRIFFITHS

You might as well answer it now.
