§ 9. Mr. HARRISasked the President of the Board of Education whether the decision that teachers absent from school on account of ill-health for periods which involve a loss of pay are liable to have their salaries re-assessed and reduced is a decision of the Board of Education or of the Burnham Committee; and whether this decision applies to teachers working under the elementary, secondary and technical awards, respectively?
§ Lord E. PERCYThe decision, to which the hon. Member refers, is embodied in Section 11 of the Third Report of the Standing Joint Committee on Salaries of Teachers in Public Elementary Schools, a copy of which I am sending him. Historically, the decision was originally made by the Board in 1923, and it was subsequently accepted by the committee. The procedure for dealing with this matter under the Secondary and Technical Reports is somewhat different. I will furnish the hon. Member with the particulars if he so desires.
