HC Deb 05 July 1927 vol 208 cc1092-3
46. Mr. BUXTON

asked the Prime Minister to state the attitude of His Majesty's Government towards the League of Nations refugee settlement plan in Syria, for which voluntary financial support is invited from the public?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Godfrey Locker-Lampson)

I have been asked to reply. While His Majesty's Government are not prepared, for the reasons explained in the reply to the right hon. Gentleman on the 18th of May, to consider a grant from public funds, the effort to secure the re-settlement of the Armenians in French Syria or elsewhere appears to them to be an eminently deserving object for private charity.
