HC Deb 23 February 1927 vol 202 cc1762-3
70. Colonel DAY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what action has been taken by the Income Tax Commissioners with a view to Income Tax being paid by persons working coal outputs during the recent mining lock-out?

Mr. McNEILL

The Inland Revenue authorities endeavour to prevent any income properly assessable to Income Tax from escaping taxation, and they are aware of the activities referred to in the question. But it would be impossible in reply to a question to explain the methods adopted to assess and collect the tax where payable.
